LES TRENTE-SIX VUES DE LA TOUR EIFFEL par Henri Rivière

$95.00

McDonald, Aya Louisa

Philippe Sers Editeur, Paris, 1989

Hardcover. Foxing on top edges and headband, otherwise a very good, clean and bright copy. French text. 111 pages, with 36 color plates and 42 black and white illustrations.

A rare copy of Henri Rivière's “36 Views of the Eiffel Tower” republished in a very careful edition, a facsimile of a 1902 copy.

Responding to Hokusai's “36 Views of Fuji-Yama”, and marked by the Japonisme of the time, this work also allows us to better appreciate the revival that André Juillard carried out, for the centenary, in his own “36 views”, of which we can better see how they respond, board by board, to those of H. Rivière.
